On September 27th, CPSTS was instrumental in brokering a partnership involving MMYC, Miller and Long Concrete Construction, the Independent Electrical Contractors (IEC) Chesapeake Chapter, the Linnell Driving School (LDS). Through a reciprocal referral process the partners exchange information on potential student and/or apprentices. The first collaboration was held at MMYC on October 25th. Miller and Long, IEC and LDS participated in an Informational Session where each presented information on the opportunities available at their respective businesses. Paid training, apprenticeships, entry level jobs and an opportunity make payments while you earn a driver’s license. Junior and Senior students also learned about the Fire Cadet program at Flowers and Gwynn Park High Schools.
The students were very interested to learn about the opportunities they knew nothing about. They asked plenty of questions and asked for a return of the presenter again. To their surprise and delight, the presenters all agreed to come back again.
Ms. Romania Byrd, Director of Education and Training from Miller & Long Concrete Construction, talks to the students about employment opportunities from entry-level to CEO.
