Face Covering Enforcement

By law, every 10 years the U.S. Census counts every resident in the United States. Your participation determines representation and how billions in federal funds are distributed. If our community is undercounted, friends and neighbors miss out on an estimated $18,250 per person over a 10-year period. Statewide, that’s a total of $26.6 billion over a 10-year period.

The federal government distributes $675 billion to states and communities based on census data. The money is spent on schools, hospitals, roads, public works, and other programs.

Every 10 years, a complete count of every person in the United States helps identify and allocate those funds. For each person in Prince George’s County who fails to be counted, the County loses federal funding for your community. The 2020 Census is more than a count. It's an opportunity to get involved and to help shape the future of your community.

The data collected from each census are used in many ways. Some examples include:

  • Transportation planning
  • Anticipating needs for hospitals, nursing homes, and health services
  • Attracting and expanding businesses for economic development
  • Drawing school boundaries
  • Establishing fair market rents
  • Emergency response
  • To determine the number of seats each state has in the U.S. House of Representatives
  • To inform legislative redistricting at the federal, state, and local levels
  • To distribute federal fund allocations to states, counties, and local communities
  • To provide statistics in support of grant applications
  • To assist communities, such as those in Prince George’s County, in planning for the future

WHAT IS THE U.S. CENSUS?

Override

Governor Hogan's Veto

Disappointingly, Governor Hogan vetoed the Blueprint for Maryland's Future.

This legislation is critical for both the short and long-term success of Maryland's students and economy. This is the time to ensure our state creates a world-class system in an economically responsible way. The COVID-19 pandemic has magnified the need for our public schools to be funded to help our children succeed in a 21st century, global market.  Tell your lawmakers to override the veto and improve Maryland's public schools for all students!

COVID-19 Emergency

Rental Assistance

Temporary, Emergency Rental Assistance Program (ERA) available to help with rent and utility payments for tenants whose employment income has been negatively impacted by COVID-19. This assistance may help prevent arrears and late fees from accumulating and prevent evictions from occurring. Depending upon need, applicants may be eligible for a maximum of up to $1,800.00 per month for a maximum of up to 3 months of emergency rental assistance.

Strong Schools Work

Your hard work has helped spearhead the passage of legislation implementing the Blueprint for Maryland School’s Future. After making small changes, the General Assembly said YES to strong schools in Maryland before going on recess until May 2020. WE CAN’T PUT THE BRAKES ON YET, HOWEVER! Let’s ensure Governor Hogan knows how strongly we support our Legislators. Use your voices to urge the Governor to sign this Historic bill into law. OUR KIDS CAN’T WAIT! Go to ActionNowMD to remind Governor Hogan that Strong Schools Work for All of Us! #blueprint4MD
